Nexium IV (esomeprazole sodium)
AstraZeneca (Wilmington, Del) recently received FDA approval for Nexium IV for injection. The product is indicated for intravenous (IV) infusion or injection for the short-term treatment (up to 10 days) of gastroesophageal reflux disease in patients with a history of erosive esophagitis who are unable to take capsules. The recommended adult dosage regimen for the product is either 20 or 40 mg of Nexium IV given once daily by IV injection (=3 minutes) or IV infusion (10 to 30 minutes).
