Association Offers Web-based MTM Services

Community MTM Services, developedby the National Community PharmacistsAssociation (NCPA), changesthe "behind-the-counter" paradigm ofpharmacy communications. CommunityMTM will provide a Web-basedcommunications infrastructure, clinicalcontent, and policies and procedures toassist the provision of medication therapymanagement (MTM) services. Currently, communication tools availableto pharmacists behind the counter donot have the information and structurenecessary for successful delivery ofhigh-quality MTM services.

The program will be an intermediarybetween plan sponsors and communitypharmacists in the delivery of MTMservices in the retail setting. MTM is arequired offering in 2006 to eligiblepatients by Medicare Part D prescriptiondrug plans. Success of MTM servicesrequires a system that plan sponsors canuse to coordinate MTM duties with communitypharmacists. Pharmacists musthandle those tasks effectively, completethem in a timely manner, and efficientlydocument service delivery and submitclaims for payment purposes.
