Do you have a formulation for extemporaneouspreparation of prednisolone suspension? I have apediatric patient who cannot tolerate the manufacturedpreparation.

Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate OralSolution #1 (sugar-free, alcohol-free, dye-free)Calculated to make 100 mL

Ingredients:

Prednisolone sodium phosphate 0.135 g

Sorbitol 70% USP 50.0 mL

Sodium saccharin 0.500 g

*Flavor concentrate 1.0 mL

Distilled water USP qs ad 100.0 mL

*Raspberry, strawberry, or cherry.

Supplies:

Balance with weights and weigh paper or weigh boats

Graduated cylinder

Mortar and pestle

Beaker

Stirring rod

Procedure:

  • Dissolve the prednisolone sodium phosphate and thesodium saccharin in 40 mL of distilled water.
  • Add the sorbitol 70% USP and flavor concentrate to (1)with stirring.
  • Add sufficient distilled water to (2) to make 100 mL.
