Why Women in Pharmacy Need Pharmacist Moms Group

Suzy Soliman, PharmD, discusses why pharmacist moms needed a space for themselves.

Suzy Soliman, PharmD, founder of the Pharmacist Moms Group on Facebook, discusses why pharmacist moms needed a social media space for themselves. This video was filmed at the 2019 Cardinal Health Retail Business Conference in Nashville.

Suzy Soliman, PharmD: This space is needed. Women in pharmacy have graduated at higher rates than males for the past 40 years, yet there wasn't a group or organization that catered to women. So for the past 40 years, every year graduation rates are higher for women, and until Pharmacist Moms Group, we really didn't have the space to talk about what we did. And women traditionally were working more part-time hours, based on some academic research that's been done, than their male counterparts. So I think we really need this space, this safe space, where we can talk about issues that they're facing in their career. And that's kind of the beauty of Pharmacist Moms, where we can talk about that and help one another, support one another. It was just really needed. There are all these women out there who were practicing pharmacy, but we didn't have anywhere to go.
