Universal Influenza Vaccine Update

A discussion of efforts to develop a universal influenza vaccine that will be capable of protecting against any potential strain of the influenza virus.

In this video, recorded at ICAAC 2012, the American Society for Microbiology’s annual infectious diseases meeting, Jeff Fox, PhD, features editor of Microbe, talks with Donna Ambrosino and Zachary Shriver of Visterra Inc about efforts to develop a universal influenza vaccine that will be capable of protecting against any potential strain of the influenza virus. Currently, the influenza vaccine must be updated annually to protect against the strains of influenza expected to circulate in a given year, leaving people vulnerable to novel virus strains.
