Practice Makes Perfect in the Kitchen and the Pharmacy

My mom always told me it’s very possible that a recipe won’t work out right away.

Sometimes, very simple things, such as not allowing your ingredients come to room temperature, might make the recipe fail. I learned that it’s often more important to know how a mistake looks than to seek perfection, and it’s even more crucial to know how to fix it.

In the pharmacy setting, it’s hard to not get caught up in seeking perfection. After all, a mistake in our work environment can’t really be compared to a kitchen flop.

Nevertheless, it’s important to put things in perspective. Common sense isn’t always that common, and the pharmacy tends to be a stressful work environment.

I often know where I went wrong when I take a second to reflect and review my process. You can never double or triple check enough, and you can never stop trying to find a way to become more efficient or effective in your method.

Each day, I find new and better ways to interact with my patients and practice the art of pharmacy. Just like baking a cake or whipping up a gourmet meal, practice makes perfect.

In my search of the “perfect” steak, I started changing the way I prepare meat. Because I couldn’t really find one true “perfect” recipe, I had to review many recipes and create my own version of perfection.

I never knew I loved meat so much until I started searing it correctly. The way I had prepared steak before wasn’t wrong; I just learned a new way to cook it better, and my taste buds are thankful.
