Naloxone Hydrochloride (Narcan)

The 4-mg naloxone hydrochloride nasal spray (Narcan; Emergent BioSolutions) is the first formulation of naloxone (which rapidly reverses an opioid overdose) to be approved by the FDA for purchase without prescription. The approval allows the product to be sold directly to consumers online and in grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations, and pharmacies. This decision follows recommendations from 2 panels of FDA advisers, who voted unanimously in favor of OTC naloxone. Emergent BioSolutions will revise the packaging and instructions to eliminate confusion.

HearingAssist Rechargeable OTC Hearing Aids

IncInnerScope Hearing Technologies has launched a rechargeable version of its FDA-registered OTC hearing aids at Target.com. The affordable device delivers high-quality sound and costs between $499 and $599, and includes a wireless application controller that allows for volume adjustment with a smartphone, according to an InnerScope statement. The hearing aids work in group settings, noisy environments, and during telephone conversations.

Dermaplaning Skincare Collection

Gillette Venus, in a partnership with OLAY, has launched a dermaplaning skin care system made up of a cleansing primer, dermaplaning razor, hydrating serum, and mini hair remover. The no-rinse cleanser contains aloe and cucumber and is to be used before dermaplaning or in-between hair removal days. The serum is water based and formulated with aloe, cucumber, hyaluronic acid, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, and witch hazel to refresh and smooth the skin after dermaplaning. Designed for the face with gentle blades for cheeks, chin, and lips, the razor removes fine facial hair and layers of dead skin. The blade has a rounded tip for control and safety and can be charged, which makes the product more sustainable.
