Parata Sends Prescription-Filling Robots to Haiti

Durham, NC Pharmacy Automator Sends High-Tech Help to Port-au-Prince.

DURHAM, NC (Jan. 25, 2010) — Durham-based Parata Systems is sending two Parata Mini® pill-dispensing robots (with generators) to Haiti, to aid medication distribution, and allow healthcare workers to spend more time providing much-needed care to victims of the country’s recent, devastating earthquake.

The equipment, along with Parata’s installation and engineering personnel, will immediately improve accuracy and efficiency of drug dispensing for victims nearest the epicenter of the quake and surrounding areas. The Parata equipment represents a $150,000 donation by Parata to provide desperately needed aid.

In addition, Parata employees are donating other essential items, such as medical supplies, clothing and water, to travel with the technology to a pharmacy near Port au Prince.

“When natural disaster strikes, the demand on caregivers is relentless. Our technology will immediately begin counting medication and filling prescription vials, so healthcare workers can focus more on patients,” Tom Rhoads, executive vice president, said.

Parata is working with World Vision to coordinate support, a Christian, humanitarian, charity organization directly involved in providing relief in the region.
