Drug Pricing, Generic Competition a High Priority for ASHP

Tom Kraus, VP of Government Relations for ASHP, discusses what they're focusing on regarding drug pricing legislation.

In this clip, Tom Kraus, MHS, JD, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists vice president of government relations discusses generic competition and drug pricing. This video was filmed during the 2019 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Summer Meeting in Boston, MA.

Tom Kraus, MHS, JD: “Drug pricing is a top priority for ASHP. It’s also a top priority right now for Congress, one of the rare areas where I think we’re likely to see some bipartisan progress in Congress this year. And so ASHP has been very engaged in educating members of Congress about our positions on the topic. We’ve submitted several statements for records for hearings over the past year, and we’ve also met with over 30 congressional offices on key committees relevant to the drug pricing debate, including the Senate Help Committee and Senate Finance Committees, which are debating this legislation right now. The key issues that we’ve been advocating for in that context are actions that would help spur generic competition in the market to try to reduce drug prices.”
