CVS Health is expanding its Project Health campaign to target more underserved and underinsured communities, aiming to reach more at-risk populations with free health and wellness screenings.
Founded in 2006, Project Health has delivered more than $127 million in free health care services to nearly 1.7 million Americans. The campaign offers a no-cost comprehensive health assessment, including blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), and glucose and total cholesterol screenings, which can detect early risks for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
In addition, the expanded campaign is aiming to screen for social determinants of health that affect personal health and communities.
Over the next 4 months, nearly 600 Project Health events will take place in multicultural communities with a significant number of uninsured and underinsured Americans. Select stores across the United States will be participating, including sites in the Atlanta, Boston, Providence, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. markets.
More than 87% of patients who attend Project Health events have reported following-up with their primary care physician. According to CVS Health’s metrics, these patients were significantly more likely to have a proactive discussion about their blood pressure, BMI, and blood sugar levels.
Project Health events are open to the public and do not require an appointment. Once screened, patients have access to on-site consultations with bilingual nurse practitioners or physician assistants, who will analyze the results. If needed, these health care professionals can refer patients that require additional medical care to no-cost or low-cost medical facilities nearby, or to their primary care physician.
