COVID-19 Has Heightened the Importance of Seasonal Flu Vaccine

Pharmacists must raise awareness to dispel misinformation surrounding vaccines during a critical flu season.

Pharmacy Times spoke with Mitchel C. Rothholz, RPh, MBA, the chief strategy officer for the American Pharmacists Association, about the importance of National Immunization Awareness Month and the upcoming seasonal flu and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines.

Rothholz discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic has made the seasonal flu vaccine even more important this year. COVID-19 symptoms are very similar to flu symptoms, which can make it difficult to diagnose. However, if a patient has received the flu vaccine, it can make diagnosing the symptoms easier.

Rothholz also explained how pharmacists can work to dispel misinformation surrounding vaccinations, especially the COVID-19 vaccination.
