ASHP's Pharmacotherapy Review, Recertification Course a Benefit for Practitioners

Article

PRESS RELEASE

A two-day Pharmacotherapy Review and Recertification Course offered at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Orlando, Dec. 7-8, 2013, will help prepare health-system pharmacists who wish to take the newly announced Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Spring 2014 exam.

The new BPS Spring 2014 testing window offers applicants a chance to sit for the exams in addition to the traditional Fall testing period. Applicants can start applying for the Spring 2014 certification and recertification exams in early January 2014. The spring exam administration window will be April 24-May 10, 2014.

ASHP’s review course provides a robust preparatory curriculum that covers real-life, patient-focused scenarios and multiple disease states. It also offers continuous professional development that is immediately applicable to pharmacy practice.

“We think that pharmacists will find much to like about our BPS prep and recertification courses,” said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., Sc.D. (Hon.), FASHP, adding that the courses are developed by the leading continuing education provider in the U.S. as well as numerous content and faculty experts.

“This is not an average review course,” Abramowitz noted. “It utilizes a complex case-based, interactive approach that goes beyond the didactic learning norm. ASHP is focused on offering a course that has a meaningful and lasting impact on attendees and the way they manage the care of their patients.”

Review course participants follow “patients” in real-life scenarios from initial presentation, medical history, risk factors, and complications throughout their treatments and outcomes. Participants learn as they apply various treatment options based on national standards and guidelines.

Strong emphasis is placed on the thought processes needed to solve patient care problems in each therapeutic area. As patient cases are discussed, faculty members provide an information bridge, presenting the best answers to clinical questions that illustrate key concepts.
