ASHP Mourns the Loss of Charles A. Walton, PhD

ASHP joins the pharmacy community in mourning the death of Charles A. Walton, Ph.D., a visionary leader and a key figure in the development of clinical pharmacy.

Dr. Walton served as the William J. Sheffield Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy (UT). At UT and during his 22 years at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, he played a key role in establishing groundbreaking clinical pharmacy training programs. Dr. Walton also helped to plan and was the first director of the country’s first drug information center, which was housed at the University of Kentucky. He was a longtime member of ASHP and served on the Committee on Goals.

“Dr. Walton was an inspiration to many and paved the way for clinical pharmacy pioneers working to expand the essential patient care services provided by pharmacists,” said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., Sc.D., (Hon.), FASHP. “His leadership and vision have stood the test of time.”
