Results of 2016 Kantar Media Readership Study Demonstrate Pharmacy Times' Continuous Leadership Among Retail Pharmacists

PLAINSBORO, N.J. (July 7, 2016) - Pharmacy Times®, the leading media resource for pharmacists and the pharmacy industry, is the most-read pharmacy journal among retail chain pharmacists and pharmacy professionals, according to the results of the 2016 Kantar Media Pharmacy Readership study.1 Additionally, Pharmacy Times’ Daily e-News email was ranked No. 1 among pharmacists in the email/e-newsletter category of the nonjournal media portion of the study.2

The annual Kantar Media study measures the readership habits of thousands of pharmacists and pharmacy professionals. Respondents include pharmacists working in chain, independent retail pharmacies, and health-system pharmacies, as well as pharmacy professionals in key positions at pharmacy benefit management companies and managed care organizations. The results, based on surveys completed during the first quarter of 2016, show Pharmacy Times outranked all competitors in Average Issue Readership among the total sample studied.3 In the same study, Pharmacy Times also led the industry in Ad Page Exposures among study participants.4

Again being ranked No. 1 in total readers among retail chain pharmacists, and our status as the industry’s No. 1 journal in multiple categories, underscores the incredible informational value our readers find in the pages of Pharmacy Times month after month, year after year,” said Brian Haug, president of the managed markets, pharmacy and rare disease franchises of Michael J. Hennessy Associates Inc., which publishes Pharmacy Times. “Our talented editorial staff, sales team and production department understand the needs of our readers and are committed to delivering content that speaks to the modern realities of today’s pharmacy practice in our complex health care environment.”

Leadership in Multiple Categories

Pharmacy Times, which circulates to more than 164,000 retail pharmacists, specifically ranked first in Average Issue Readership among retail pharmacists who fill 200 or more prescriptions per day, as well as pharmacists who spend three or more hours a day counseling patients.5-6Additionally, Pharmacy Times ranked first in Average Issue Readership and Ad Page Exposures among pharmacists who have been in practice for less than 10 years, as well as those who have been in practice for more than 10 years, demonstrating the publication’s content value to all generations of pharmacists.7-10 Moreover, members of the American Pharmacists Association ranked Pharmacy Times No. 1 in Average Issue Readership and Ad Page Exposures.11-12

For the survey, participants were asked how often they read a particular publication, how they read each issue (such as “cover to cover” or “articles of interest only”), and how much of the issue they read. The survey included a total of 17 publications.
