Fourth Annual National Event Recognizes, Encourages Leadership in Pharmacy

  • American Idol’s singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi will headline Las Vegas recognition event
  • Judges selected 30 finalists from more than 400 nominations in 10 distinct categories
  • Next-Generation Pharmacist rewards and encourages excellence in patient care, pharmacy operations and vision

Durham, N.C.—(July 11, 2013)—Parata Systems and Pharmacy Times are pleased to announce the finalists for the 2013 Next-Generation Pharmacist awards, a national program honoring pharmacists who define the future of the industry. In its fourth year, the Next-Generation Pharmacist awards recognize pharmacy leaders across a wide range of practice settings, and this year the program attracted more than 400 entries from 45 states.

Nominations are received across 10 award categories, and all entries are reviewed by an independent panel of esteemed judges, chaired by Pharmacy Times Editor-in-Chief Fred M. Eckel, RPh, MS.

Three finalists are selected in each category, and this year 30 pharmacists, technicians and student pharmacists will be recognized at the 2013 gala awards event. These finalists represent a true cross-section of the industry, from large chain retailers, independent pharmacies, and specialty pharmacies, to military bases, health clinics and educational institutions. This year’s honorees come from 21 states in addition to the U.S. Navy base in Guam.

The winner for each category will be announced at the 2013 Next-Generation Pharmacist awards event on Sunday, August 11, at The Joint at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, concurrent with the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Total Store Expo.

Accomplished singer, songwriter, producer to headline awards event

The awards event will include a special performance and keynote from American Idol’s Kara DioGuardi. As an accomplished singer, songwriter, producer, music executive and TV personality, DioGuardi will discuss her songwriting career and perform songs she has written for award-winning artists. In honor of her attendance, Next-Generation Pharmacist will make a $10,000 donation to the Phoenix House, an organization committed to protecting and supporting individuals, families, and communities affected by substance abuse and dependency.

Also at the event, one winner from the pharmacist categories will receive the program’s highest honor, “2013 Next-Generation Pharmacist,” a prestigious award that recognizes a licensed pharmacist who embodies the highest standards of patient care, management and operations, while demonstrating an uncompromising vision for the pharmacy industry.
