Pharmacy Times® interviewed Anne Marie Kondic, PharmD, executive director of the Community Pharmacy Foundation (CPF), on the work that CPF has been engaged in to promote the value of the practice of community pharmacy.

The discussion included a description of the kind of work that CPF supports, details regarding the Flip the Pharmacy initiative, and the Flip the Pharmacy initiative’s engagement with pharmacists’ efforts during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Kondic explained that when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March, the leadership of the transformation realized their approach to the launch of the initiative needed to change.

“In order to address patient care and pharmacy workflow, they had to address COVID-19 factors. So, the team pretty much overnight released 4 change packages,” Kondic said. “A change package is the materials that are packaged to share and educate the pharmacies about the processes to transform practice. For COVID-19, change packages were released looking at the pharmacies’ workflow, how to address aspects of COVID-19, and how to change care planning for patients when you have to meet them on the corner or out in the car in the middle of the rain.”

Kondic also discussed why it was beneficial to group the Flip the Pharmacy initiative into teams that were state-specific and what CPF is interested in seeing in the second round of the Flip the Pharmacy initiative this fall.
