Tom Kraus, VP of Government Relations for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), speaks about what pharmacists should look for in a robust provider status law. This video was filmed at the 2019 ASHP Summer Meetings & Exhibition in Boston, MA.

Tom Kraus, MHS, JD: A robust provider status law at the state level should include at a minimum the ability for pharmacists to perform patient assessments; the ability to administer vaccinations; the ability to initiate, adjust, and discontinue drug therapy pursuant to a collaborative practice agreement; provide medication management therapy services; and to manage drug therapy for chronic disease states. All of those are elements that allow pharmacists to contribute to the management of patients, that are important to see in provider status.
