Why is Quick Turnaround from Referral to Acceptance Critical to Patient Care?

Elvin Montanez, PharmD, chief operations officer at BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy, discusses the importance of a quick turnaround from patient referral to acceptance.

Montanez: Quick turnaround time is very important because it’s on the top of mind for everybody that is involved in the patient. The patient is waiting for service, the prescriber is often left wondering what has happened with that referral or that prescription, as well as the health plan is requiring information regarding their member—that patient.

A quick turnaround is really important. A lot of logistics in health care could really start falling apart if that turnaround is not present. Being able to manage those expectations—know what you’re getting into with the prescription and the patient, their condition is critical to rapid turnaround time.
