The FDA Modernization Act of 2021 Aims to Use Alternatives to Animal Testing

In a Pharmacy Times® interview, Aysha Akhtar, CEO and co-founder for the Center for Contemporary Sciences discussed the FDA Modernization Act of 2021, which would modernize the drug testing process by allowing investigators to use other methods of testing as an alternative to animal testing for the safety and effectiveness of a drug.

She discussed why the Senate is looking to make these changes, what some alternative methods could be used, and other steps that may be beneficial to further modernize the current FDA requirements for drug approval.
