Test May Aid Diagnosis of Fungal Nail Infection

According to the results of a recent study, published online on April 28, 2014, in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) may be effective when used as a rapid, office-based test to strengthen diagnosing and prescribing for patients wiht fungal nail infections. RCM correctly diagnosed 79.3% of patients with confirmed onychomycosis and had a specificity rate of 90.2%.
