Pharmacy Times Mobile App Lets Pharmacists Earn Credit Anywhere

An accredited provider of continuing pharmacy education, Pharmacy Times offers its popular CE programming in a new, free mobile application for iPhone and iPod Touch.

PLAINSBORO, NJ (June 22, 2010)—Pharmacy Times recently announced the launch of the Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education Mobile Application. Designed to satisfy the technological demands of today’s plugged-in pharmacist, the free app brings the best of Pharmacy Times CE content to a truly mobile platform for the first time ever. Starting in July 2010, the app will be available to download in the iPhone App Store.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can log into the application using their existing Pharmacy Times account information, or register for a new account directly from any iPod touch, iPhone, or other mobile device. Once logged in, users can browse through a frequently updated menu of CE activities, case studies, and lessons. All lessons are delivered in a user-friendly, easy-to-read format, providing countless opportunities to earn pharmacy CE credit wherever a free moment presents itself.

The first 2 courses the app will feature—“Hypogonadism: The Role of the Pharmacist,” and “Testosterone Replacement Therapy: Hypogonadism and the Role of the Pharmacist”—represent the quality and credibility pharmacists have come to expect from the Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Education. Both belong to a new case-based series of learning activities, which were developed to complement the longer lessons that make up the bulk of the Pharmacy Times CE catalog.

“Case-based learning may be the best method to address clinical problems that arise in the day-to-day activities of health care professionals,” said Judy V. Lum, Pharmacy Times’ executive director of education. “It is also an important method to briefly keep up with the information explosion and select relevant issues to learn about.” The focus of these activities, she said, is to “Learn, Practice, Use.”

Providing this content in a smartphone-friendly format was a natural next step toward fulfilling that goal, according to Tighe Blazier, President of Pharmacy Times. “The new app leverages technology pharmacists are already using to make CE programming more convenient and accessible, and we are excited to provide this new service to our readers,” he said.

In addition to coursework, the app will feature a rotating selection of news alerts, up-to-date web exclusives, and, later in the summer, live webinars to address key issues facing pharmacists today. “We know pharmacists depend on Pharmacy Times for this information to improve their daily practice, and we’re constantly seeking new ways to deliver it. The new iPhone app is just one example of how we’re following through on that commitment,” said Mike Hennessy, Chairman and CEO of MJH & Associates and the publisher of Pharmacy Times.
