Patient-Provider Communication

Katie Westgerdes, PharmD, pharmacist at the ONU Healthwise Pharmacy, explains the importance of patient-provider communication for medication therapy management during the Cardinal Health Retail Business Conference on July 19, 2019.

Katie Westgerdes, PharmD: First and foremost, with any patient service program, our patients trust us very, very much. One of the reasons our patients come to us is because we're familiar with them, we're familiar with their healthcare issues, and most often we know them by name when they walk in. So they first of all really appreciate that. But second of all, that creates the trust that we need for them to open up and let us help them even more. So most of our compliance packaging and med sync patients we also do other services for, like MTM or immunizations or delivery, and it really just helps strengthen that bond and allows us to provide more and better services than we were before.
