ddn Corp's (San Marcos, Calif) APM allows patients to identify themselves, pay for their medications, request counseling, and pick up their refills previously deposited in the unit by staffers. To use the product, the patient swipes a credit card and enters his or her 4-digit personal identification number and date of birth. Once the machine confirms the patient's identity, the screen shows the prescriptions that are ready for pickup. Before the medication is dispensed, the patient selects the prescriptions, pays by credit card or cash, picks up a receipt, and signs an electronic signature. The door does not open if the bar codes do not match. The machine has the capacity to store 1000 standard or small prescriptions and has a small footprint. For more information, visit www.ddncorp.com, or call 760-471-3994.
