Purdue Pharmaceutical Products' (Stamford, Conn) Colace/Peri-Colace laxatives are used to treat constipation. Colace's active ingredient is docusate sodium. Docusate sodium allows water and fats to get into the stool and helps to soften fecal material. Colace is available in capsules, syrup, liquid 1% solution, and glycerin suppositories. Peri-Colace's active ingredients are docusate sodium and standardized senna concentrate. These ingredients help relieve occasional constipation. Peri-Colace is available in tablets.
