One way that individuals can keep the damaging effects of inflammation to a minimum is to exercise good oral hygiene. Here are some suggestions:
- Brush the teeth at least 2 times a day with a fluoride-containing toothpaste to reduce the risk of gum disease, a source of chronic inflammation
- Use a soft-bristle toothbrush
- Use floss at least once a day to remove plaque from between teeth
- Have regular dental examinations
