Don't Leave Home Without . . .
For patients with asthma or allergies, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) has made the following recommendations when planning a trip:
? Have a physical before the trip (if the patient has active allergy symptoms or unstable asthma)
? Pack medications in a carry-on bag; always bring an extra supply of medicines
? Carry a peak flow meter, an asthma control plan, and the physician?s phone number
? Allow for time differences so that medication dosage schedules remain constant if the traveler is crossing several time zones
? Continue allergy shots (if the patient is traveling for extended periods)
? Obtain the name of an AAAAI allergist in the destination area by calling Physician Referral and Information at 800-822-2762 or by visiting the Physicians Referral System at www.aaaai.org
