It is not a reason to start drinking, but researchers at Harvard report that in a 10-year follow-up study of over 100,000 women, those who had about one half to 2 drinks a day were 58% less likely than nondrinkers to develop type 2 diabetes. On the other hand, women who had more than 2 drinks a day had more than double the risk of developing the condition as non-drinkers. The report appears in the June 2003 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
