Are Diabetics Following the National Guidelines for Diet and Excerise?
Many individuals with diabetes are not complying with the national guidelines on diet and exercise, according to study results presented at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the American Diabetes Association. Researchers examined data from 1,480 adults with type 2 diabetes who were enrolled in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The data showed that 31% of the participants did not regularly engage in physical activity, 62% consumed fewer than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, and 69% consumed more than 30% of their daily calories from fat. People with a lower income, older people, and people with less than a high school education were most likely to report no regular physical activity.
