Tell Your Patients with Diabetes About Aspirin

Patients with diabetes can prevent cardiovascular disease with aspirin therapy, said researchers in a recent issue of Diabetes Care. In January 2000, the American Diabetes Association recommended aspirin therapy for everyone over the age of 30 with diabetes and no known contraindications to such therapy. Although the new study showed that a substantial portion of those with diabetes in a single health care system had been counseled about aspirin use, 29% had not received information and 34% were not taking daily aspirin.
