Should you buy into new drug hype?

Should you buy into new drug hype?

In a 2015 YouTube video, Raney Rogers, PharmD—also known as The Bearded Pharmacist—cautions against it.

In the clip, a pharmacist and his brother become overly exuberant about the availability of OTC Nexium. They open the new product gingerly from its light-emitting box and celebrate its arrival in the pharmacy.

After sharing their excitement about the product in the United States, the message is carried to Mexico where families are seen enthusiastically cheering on the good news and popping out of cabinets to tell others that OTC Nexium has arrived.

Around 17.5 days later, the glimmer of OTC Nexium excitement fades. However, new OTC Flonase is there to take the limelight.

The video encourages patients to talk to their pharmacist if they have questions about new products—and not to get so excited simply because a new product has entered the market.

“New Drug Hype” was filmed, edited, and designed by Dr. Rogers, with production help from his brother, Reid Rogers.
