How Does Consolidation Affect Specialty Pharmacies and Their Patients?

Nick Calla, RPh, vice president of Industry Relations at Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions, discusses the challenges that consolidation brings to the pharmacy industry and how specialty pharmacies can face those challenges.

At the 2018 National Association of Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting and Educational Conference, Nick Calla, RPh, vice president of Industry Relations at Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions, discussed the challenges that consolidation brings to the pharmacy industry and how specialty pharmacies can face those challenges.

Transcript

"Consolidation in the industry, really what you’re looking at there and the way that it affects patients is around access and access to care and access to the pharmacy that you want to work with. As they start to consolidate, payer opportunities may dwindle, they may narrow, and it starts to cause a challenge from that end. So it’s incumbent upon the specialty pharmacy industry to try and face those challenges as quickly as they can, as efficiently as they can, and to maintain access to many of the payer networks as you can, as well as the products that we need to service those patients."
