Can Osteoporosis Be Prevented?

In this video, Aurelia Nattiv, MD, of the UCLA Medical Center, answers a patient’s question about whether osteoporosis can be prevented despite a family history of the disease. She recommends ensuring patients get adequate calcium and vitamin D and engage in weight-bearing exercise to increase bone health. Patients should also consult their physician to ascertain their risk level and to determine whether bone density testing is needed, she added.
