Press Release

Today the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing announced that ASHP (American Society of Health System Pharmacists) has officially joined the coalition.

ASHP is the national professional organization whose more than 43,000 members include pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians serving as patient care providers on health care teams in acute and ambulatory settings. ASHP shares CSRxP’s commitment to finding a market-based solution to drug pricing.

"ASHP joins the Campaign at an important time and adds a crucial voice to our effort. Pharmacists are on the frontlines of the fight to make prescription drugs affordable,” noted John Rother, executive director of the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing. "We are thrilled to have ASHP join this effort as we seek to find market-based solutions that can reduce drug prices for consumers, providers, and the U.S health care system."

“The unpredictable and rapidly increasing prices of various life-sustaining drugs are having a negative impact on our patients, and are stressing the health care system in unsustainable ways,” said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., Sc.D.(Hon), FASHP. “ASHP is pleased to join the CSRxP, and we look forward to working with the campaign to identify market-based solutions that will ensure patients have affordable access to needed medications.”

Lowering prescription drug prices is a bipartisan issue that has gained national attention from presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle in recent months. Voters and consumers have made it clear that they want candidates to address and confront drug pricing. But despite increasing concerns from consumers and lawmakers, a new report from Truveris indicates that drug prices in the U.S. increased nearly 10.5 percent in 2015, making clear the need for true solutions to soaring health care costs.
