RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR PATIENTS WITH CLOTTING DISORDERS

The diagnosis of a hereditary clotting disorder can provoke anxiety in many patients, especially those who require lifelong therapy with warfarin. A number of resources are available to educate these patients about their disorder and the management of it.

A wealth of information is available for patients to access on the Internet. Some reliable Web sites include:

?www.clotcare.com?a comprehensive site for health care providers, patients, and caregivers; frequent updates on recent studies as well as educational materials on a variety of management issues

?www.coumadin.com?drug information, patient education, helpful links to information about warfarin treatment

?www.dvt.net?provides educational materials for patients and caregivers that explain deep vein thrombosis, unstable angina, the clotting mechanism, and the cardiovascular system

?www.fvleiden.org?dedicated to patients living with Factor V Leiden disorder and other types of thrombophilia

?www.nattinfo.org?The National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thrombophilia (NATT), a grassroots advocacy network. Newsletters, patient stories, research news, and general information dedicated to patients with thrombosis or thrombophilia are included.
