INITIATIVE TRAINS PHARMACY STAFF ON METHAMPHETAMINE ABUSE
The MethGuard Combat MethamphetamineEpidemic Act of 2005training program is now available to helppharmacies combat methamphetaminemisuse and abuse by the public.
The act mandates that retailers providetraining to all employees involved inthe sale of OTC products containingpseudoephedrine, ephedrine, or phenylpropanolamine.The retailers also mustcertify with the Drug EnforcementAgency that training has been completed.Currently, pharmacies are required toenforce daily sales limits on these products.As of September 30, 2006, additionalrequirements for training, productplacement, consumer identification, andlogging processes go into effect.
The on-line training program, developedby the National Association ofChain Drug Stores Foundation andLearning Something Inc, is flexible tomeet the specific training requirementsof individual companies. One hour ofpharmacy continuing education creditis available to individuals who successfullycomplete the training. Visitwww.nacdsf.learnsomething.com.
