E-Prescribing Coming to MSI
Medicine Shoppe International (MSI) has chartermembership status in the SureScripts MembershipPrograms for MSI's >1000 MedicineShoppe Pharmacies and Medicap PharmacyStores. With this charter membership, MedicineShoppe Pharmacies and Medicap PharmacyStores will receive considerable discounts on theirelectronic prescribing (e-prescribing) transactions.
E-prescribing will allow pharmacists in theindependent community pharmacy chain tospend more time with patients by scaling backthe amount of time usually spent receiving newprescriptions, refill requests, and change requestsfrom physicians and physicians' offices. The newtechnology also will help enhance prescriptionaccuracy by lowering errors attributed to fax, telephonetransmission, and written communication.A majority of the Medicine Shoppe Pharmaciesand Medicap Pharmacy Stores that choose toimplement SureScripts will be able to exchangeelectronic prescriptions with physicians beginningin the fall of 2005.
"Our pharmacists are known for the personalcare and counseling they provide our customers,"said Terry Burnside, president of MSI. "SureScriptswill enable our pharmacists to grow this distinctionby cutting back on their administrative dutiesand providing additional time to spend with customers."
