CFS May Lead to Sleep Disorders

A study reported recently in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine looked for acorrelation between chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and sleep disorders. Thestudy evaluated sleep quality, sleep disorders, physical health, daytime sleepiness,fatigue, and psychological adjustment in patients with CFS, patients withnarcolepsy, and a control group. The findings confirmed the researchers'predictions—the CFS group had a higher occurrence of sleep disorders.

The data showed that 15% had sleep apnea, 27% had sleep hypopnea, 12%had periodic limb movement disorder, and 4% had restless leg syndrome. Furthermore,the CFS group reported higher rates of insomnia (86%).
