Death from various types of cancer appears to increase among diabetes patients. Reporting in the American Journal of Epidemiology (June 15, 2004), the researchers examined the relationship between diabetes and death from cancer in 467,922 men and 588,321 women who were cancerfree when the study began in 1982.
Through the course of the 16-year study, the researchers discovered a connection between diabetes and death from colon and pancreatic cancers. Also, men with diabetes faced an increased risk in death from liver and bladder cancers, while women had a greater risk of death from breast cancer.
