Web Site Focuses on Preventing Drowsy Driving
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) has launched a new Web site dedicated exclusively to stopping the problem of drowsy driving. The Web site, the first of its kind, provides up-to-date information and resources to help raise awareness about a common, though oftentimes ignored, problem that leads to injuries and the deaths of thousands of people yearly. About 50% of adult drivers have reported driving while feeling drowsy, and 32 million people said that they have actually fallen asleep behind the wheel, according to the NSF?s annual ?Sleep in America? polls.
Highlights of the Web site include tips that describe the warning signs and symptoms of the onset of sleepiness and steps to follow if a person becomes sleepy while driving. The site also includes tools for better sleep, as well as special features for researchers, policy makers, and advocates working to stop the injuries and deaths that result each year because of drowsy drivers.
