The number of pharmacists credentialed in disease state management (DSM) has soared to record levels. As of September 1, 2003, there were 964 pharmacists credentialed in diabetes, 343 in asthma, and 178 and 136 in dyslipidemia and anticoagulation, respectively.
The National Institute for Standards in Pharmacist Credentialing (NISPC) administered DSM examinations in diabetes, asthma, and dyslipidemia during the recent AmerisourceBergen National Healthcare Conference. To take a DSM exam, licensed pharmacists must be in good standing with their state boards of pharmacy, and it is recommended that they have 2 years of practice experience. Pharmacists who pass an exam receive NISPC?s nationally recognized Certified Disease Manager (CDM) credential. To apply for any of the exams, visit www.nispcnet.org, or call 703-299-8790.
