Syringe Disposal Solved!

Nearly 2.4 million patients with diabetes give themselves about 1 billion injections of insulin each year, and, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 93% of them throw their used syringes in the trash. That is why the September FDA approval of UltiGuard, from St. Paul?based Ulti Med Inc, may be good news.

New syringes are stored in a drawer at the bottom. Used syringes are placed in a compartment of a ?revolving door? at the top.The ?door? revolves only 1 way, dropping the used ?sharp? into a leak-resistant storage chamber. The unit bears a biohazard label and can be easily disposed of in accordance with state regulations. Attractively styled for use in the home, the UltiGuard is priced at $19 to $21.
