GlaxoSmithKline has received FDA approval for their AB rated generic version of Zovirax. The prescription ointment is used to treat recurrent herpes labials, more commonly known as cold sores. Acyclovir is a nucleoside analogue DNA polymerase inhibitor for herpes simplex virus, the pathogen that causes herpes infections. Patients should apply the cream 5 times per day for 4 days, as soon as onset symptoms are noticed.
