Tim Ulbrich, PharmD: So, when it comes to pharmacists investing in their career, I think the first question you have to ask yourself is, “what am I trying to achieve, what’s the goal that I’m after?” For some, that could mean post-graduate training, for others that could mean pursuing a graduate degree, such as an MBA, MHA or MPH or a Health System pharmacy administration degree. Others may decide that they want to pursue more of an entrepreneurial path, and open up their own pharmacy or open up their own business.

And, before one goes down the path of pursuing, let’s say an additional degree, I think it’s really important to ask the question, “where am I trying to go? And is that step warranted? And is that step going to give me the return on investment to help get me in that path or the direction that I ultimately want to go?” Second to that, everyone listening to this has heard this before but pharmacy is a small world and really leaning into and building your network. So, making sure that you have a strong, professional network, making sure you’re investing in those relationships, making sure you’re frequently connecting with those folks, and ultimately, there will be a point in time, or multiple points in time, when you really have to depend upon that network.
