PRESS RELEASE

DEERFIELD, Ill., May 06, 2016 - Walgreens is offering vaccinations that provide protection against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) at all of its pharmacies throughout Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi as health officials in Tennessee recommend vaccination due to a number of reported measles cases. Vaccinations are available daily at Walgreens pharmacies and Healthcare Clinics with no appointment necessary and may be covered by insurance.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air through coughing or sneezing. People at high risk for severe illness and complications from measles include infants and children under 5 years old and adults age 20 and older. Pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems may also be at risk.

“We support the recommendations of health officials and stress that vaccination is the best protection against measles,” said Gene Hoover, regional healthcare director for Walgreens. “Walgreens pharmacists and Healthcare Clinic nurse practitioners play an important role by providing more convenient access to vaccinations and other preventive services throughout the community.”

Walgreens pharmacists and Healthcare Clinic nurse practitioners can administer MMR vaccine to individuals ages 7 and older in Mississippi and Tennessee; ages 14 and older in Kentucky; and ages 18 and older in Arkansas.*
