The Pharmacist as a Central Liaison in Interdisciplinary Multiple Sclerosis Care

Aimee Banks, PharmD, BCPS, MSCS discusses the vital role pharmacists play as liaisons between patients and providers in multiple sclerosis care. She explains that pharmacists’ availability and frequent communication allow them to address complex medication issues that providers may not have time to manage during busy clinic schedules. Banks highlights evidence showing that pharmacist involvement improves adherence, persistence, patient-reported outcomes, and overall patient satisfaction. She also notes that providers benefit from having a medication expert embedded within the care team to focus on MS therapies and monitoring. According to Banks, interdisciplinary collaboration led by pharmacists creates measurable value and improves the overall care experience for patients with MS.
