Zicam has released a new plant-based formulation of its Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs.

The zinc-free OTC homeopathic swabs may shorten the duration of a cold if they are used at the first signs of the illness, according to Zicam.

The swabs are also purported to lessen the severity of symptoms, such as nasal congestion, watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and scratchy throat, by 45%.

Zicam’s Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, which use menthol and eucalyptus, allow for “gentle application in nasal passages.”

Patients ages 12 and older are instructed to use 1 tube every 3 hours, but should not use more than 5 tubes in a 24-hour period.

“It’s time for people to stop thinking that there is nothing they can do when suffering from a cold,” said Holly Lucille, ND, RN, a naturopathic doctor, in a Zicam press release. “As we enter cold season, having safe and effective products, such as Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, is extremely beneficial in helping to get over a cold faster and get us back to our lives.”
