PharMEDium Unveils New Tamper Evidence Cap for Pre-Filled Syringes to Enhance Patient Safety

Article

PharMEDium Services, LLC today announced the launch of MEDGUARDâ„  designed to support patient safety and efficiency throughout the hospital. With MEDGUARD, clinicians will have an unprecedented level of confidence that any syringe medication from PharMEDium will remain unopened and sterile until they choose to break the cap seal.

Anaheim, Calif., December 8, 2014 — PharMEDium Services, LLC, the nation’s leading provider of hospital pharmacy outsourced, sterile admixture services, today announced the launch of MEDGUARDâ„ , the company’s new tamper evidence for pre-filled syringes, designed to support patient safety and efficiency throughout the hospital. With MEDGUARD, clinicians will have an unprecedented level of confidence that any syringe medication from PharMEDium will remain unopened and sterile until they choose to break the cap seal.

Available beginning today, MEDGUARD cap is uniquely designed and features two key components: a unique color and circumferential visibility to the logo. In combination, these two key features differentiate it from commercially available options that can be defeated or inadvertently removed and replaced resulting in a lack of clear visual indication of removal. Once removed, the outer cap cannot be reattached to the syringe, offering an added layer of confidence to medical professionals that the package system is integral.

“MEDGUARD brings two critical components to the operating room to support customers’ patient safety and medical efficiency initiatives,” said Amy Langan, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, PharMEDium. “MEDGUARD offers significant enhancements which enable a new level of efficiency and acts as a diversion deterrent that has not been previously available in the operating room.”

PharMEDium unveils MEDGUARD today while attending the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition, offering the opportunity for attendees to see the new MEDGUARD caps firsthand. PharMEDium is located in booth number 331, Dec. 8-10.
