Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the brain and spinal cord.
Explanation:
- In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers, causing deterioration of the nerves.
- Symptoms of MS include numbness, weakness, tremor, lack of coordination, blurry vision, double vision, slurred speech, fatigues, dizziness, tingling, and problems with bowel and bladder function.
- Diagnosis could include blood test, spinal tap, MRI, and an evoked potential test.
- Treatment options may include Interferon beta, Copaxone, Gilenya, Tecfidera, Vumerity, Aubagio, Mayzent, Mavenclad, Ocrevus, Tysarbi, Lemtrada, and physical therapy.
