Catamaran Corporation Opens Center of Excellence in Indiana

The new Indianapolis facility will support Catamaran's win of the $60 million, 6-year State of Indiana Medicaid contract.

Catamaran Corp, a leading provider of pharmacy benefit management (PBM) and technology services, opened this week a new 13,000-square-foot Center of Excellence in downtown Indianapolis. The Center will support Catamaran’s win of the $60 million, 6-year State of Indiana Medicaid contract, signed in October.

“As the first Center of Excellence to launch under the Catamaran name, this dedicated office will provide the personalized solutions and superior customer service our clients have come to expect,” said Mark Thierer, chairman and chief executive officer of Catamaran. “By providing a comprehensive suite of pharmacy benefit management services to the State of Indiana’s 1 million Medicaid members, we’ll ensure that each individual receives the right medication, through the appropriate channel, at the right time — leading to healthier communities.”

The Center of Excellence, located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, officially opened this week during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by state dignitaries including Jean Breaux, state senator, District 34; Michael Gargano, secretary, Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA); and Patricia Cassanova, director, Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning (OMPP), among other health care leaders in the region. The facility added new local jobs including pharmacists, technicians and other essential staff.

“Catamaran’s Center of Excellence model is the cornerstone of our business strategy, and allows us to organize our expertise and talent around a specific client to deliver industry-leading results,” said Dan Hardin, segment president of Catamaran. “It’s a best-of-breed approach that has proven very effective in driving down the cost of health care while enhancing access to care and customer satisfaction.”

“We selected Catamaran to service the State of Indiana’s Medicaid program largely based on its use of flexible technology, program analytics and a clear, expedient transition plan,” said Patricia Cassanova, Director, Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning. “We believe that Catamaran opening an office right here in Indianapolis will be an added benefit for our Medicaid membership.”

Catamaran currently operates 11 Centers of Excellence across the United States. The Indianapolis Center of Excellence is located at 150 Market Street, Suite 300, Indianapolis, Indiana.
