When Matthew Harrick, RPh, received this prescription at TOPS Pharmacy in Erie, Pennsylvania, he knew he would need help. He made a call to the physician’s office, where a nurse was able to shed light on the scribbled prescription.

Rx 2

This prescription was presented to Jane Atkisson, CPhT, the lead technician at CVS Pharmacy in Glen Allen, Virginia. She could not decipher the drug name on her own and eventually had to check with the prescriber for clarification.

ANSWERS

Rx 1: Amitriptyline 10 mg #60 1 at bedtime, may increase by 10 mg each week

Rx 2: Protonix 40 mg #30 1 every morning for GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)
